I've always admired those who build in public. It's something I've never done in my career. It's hard to do. There's the time commitment, the fear of criticism, and my strong need to keep everything private. With each passing day I'm realizing how silly these constraints are that I've placed on myself.

My entire career has been on the web. Yet, I've never really shared the majority of the things that I do and have done. In many ways working on the web is ephemeral. Things pop up and go away in an instant. Months or years of work are quickly wiped away after a project, client engagement, or campaign is over. There's a lot to be learned from past projects, and I'll dig into that soon.

As I sit here in early 2025, the world is a complicated place. I've shut off all the external inputs of a constant negative news cycle. (Let's be honest, it's going to be this way for a few years.) I'm not interested in the hate or the negativity. I'm choosing to direct all of my work-life energy into positivity, self-growth, enthusiasm, and care.

It's time to start a new blog. Yes, that's still quite the thing. I'm putting this site out there to help others, keep a log (a web-log!) for myself, and to share a subset of the things I'm working on. And, of course, to have one small space of enthusiasm and self-growth on the web.

This site isn't going to be polished. It's not going to be "feature complete." My goal is to write when I feel compelled to do so; with no particular schedule or urgency. I'm sharing firstly for me, but I'm happy to have others following along.

Here's to starting a new blog in 2025.

As ever,
John
